Self Driving Tank #0 – Project Annoucement

Whilst studying for my Aerospace Engineering degree, I developed a keen interest in navigation and Autopilot Systems. Unfortunately I never got the opportunity to put my interests to use in the real world. I’ve now graduated and have access to adult money, which means I can afford to spend money on interesting projects.

I recently bought an RC Tank Chassis from Aliexpress and the plan is to develop an autopilot system, such that the robot can complete different waypoint missions. The intention is to develop my own electronic hardware and the associated software.

This is a short blog post, to act as a placeholder and a “catalyst” for the future of the project.

Currently, I’m engaged in a project involving the development of a self-driving tank. To achieve autonomous navigation, the tank relies on a GPS system to determine its precise location on the Earth. Additionally, due to the project’s complexity and the need for multiple simultaneous operations, we’ve opted to use a RTOS. Specifically, we have selected… Read…

  • Self Driving Tank Hardware Selection (#1)

I’ve recently commenced work on a project focusing on building my own, self-driving RC tank. Such a project comes with a myriad of decisions, one of the most critical being selecting the right electronic hardware. From microcontrollers to sensors, motors, and communication modules, the choices made in this stage of the project will significantly influence… Read…
